Dura Brite Blank Output info page. A blank output problem is usually caused by a simple print head clog. On printers that use Dura Brite inks the problem can be much more complex than just a simple clog. The problem is the ink purge tube on the cap assembly has become disconnected. This usually happens after the ink cartridge/cartridges have been replaced. The repair is very simple but, as with anything else it may not be within the scope of everyone's capability. Also it can get messy so if you have gloves you should use them. For info on how to remove the printer housing and to access the cap assembly refer to the following machine's info page. C82 CX5200 C64/C88 CX3500-CX4600 RX500 RX600 CX6400 Next access the cap assembly and look under it to see if the tube is disconnected. If the tube is disconnected simply reconnect it and you are done. Some people have glued or used wire ties, cable ties to secure the tube to the cap assembly. Silicone sealant is our choice. You just apply it with a q-tip once the tube has been reconnected and you're done. The photos below will show the cap assembly and the ink purge tube. Once the repair is completed it is a good idea to clean the print heads. As for the repair process here is what works best for us. Use a clamp or block to keep the cap assembly to the far side of the printer. Then use 2 pairs curved needle nose pliers or forcepts to reconnect the tube. One pair for the purge tube and the other pair for the connection end on the cap assembly. It will usually take a few tries but you will make the connection. Just take your time and remember this is the first time doing this type of repair so it may be a little time consuming. So once you get the technique down it will take a lot less time. As you can see from the closeup the ink purge tube is completely disconnected. Sometimes
reconnecting the tube is all that is needed. But sometimes you have to
dig a little deeper into the printer. We reconnected the tube but it popped off
again. The ink on the tube can be slippery. But using two curved forcepts we reconnected the tubes. We did not show the finished result. But once it was connected again we did use s silicone sealant and seales the two tubes. |
And this is the reason why it popped off. The ink purge tube was clogged at two places.
One clog (this one) was at the end of the tube where the tube enters the
absorber pads. Just like we have been saying. |
This clog is at the other connection where the softer part of the purge tube is clamped
on to the more ridgid tube. As you can see it was clogged here too. A clog can be ANYWHERE along the length of the tube. |
We used a 6cc syringe filled with a printhead cleaning solution. And ran a ink needle
into the clog at both ends, Then we injected the solution into the tube and
flushed the clog out. This is the tube after we flushed it out. Nice and clean (well sort of) The printer now works which is the result we were going for. |
